What we could blame him for
The rape charges against Samantha Gailey:
Again in 2020, the Polanski case is coming back to our ears. The film J'accuse, of which he is the director, was nominated for the Césars for 14 awards, including that of Best Director. Many people have stood up against this appointment because Roman Polanski is still sexually assaulted and has not served his prison sentence in the United States.
In 1977, after a photo shoot with the then 13-year-old Samantha Gailey, Roman Polanski, who was 43, had a sexual relationship with the young girl. The next day, she talks to her mother about it and the filmmaker is arrested and charged, accused by the teenager of having drugged and raped her.
Justice then retains the following charges: rape of a minor, sodomy, supply of a prohibited substance to a minor, licentious acts and debauchery, illicit sexual relations and perversion. When Roman Polanski speaks to him of a consensual relationship.
In exchange for dropping the other charges, Roman Polanski pleads guilty to illegal sex with a minor. The judge sentences him to 90 days in prison. Finally he will be released after 42 for good behavior. However, the judge changed his mind and announced that he wanted to condemn Polanski again. The judge wants Roman Polanski sentenced to an indefinite sentence but that he will be unofficially released after 48 days if he leaves the United States for good. Lest this sentence be extended to 5 years, Roman Polanski immediately flees to France where he has nationality.
Even today, Interpol still considers Roman Polanski a fugitive. So he can move without fear only in France, Poland and Switzerland.
The other charges of sexual assault:
In addition to Samantha Geimer, 11 women accuse Polanski of sexual assault. Roman Polanski firmly denies all these accusations which come for the most part from a site managed by Matan Uziel which offered a reward of 20,000 $ to all women who gave their testimony.
Other women will file a complaint later, but all charges will either be withdrawn or the facts time barred.
